MUSTER 2007
Back To Home Page
The 2007 muster took place on Sunday June 10th, this year they used 4 helicopters instead of the usual 3 and they had 156 horses mustered in within 4 hours.

The Kaimanawa Wild Horse Welfare Trust Inc. home placed 90 horses, WHOA took 45 older horses, 14 went to the abbotoir and kwhps placed 7 horses.

45 horses came to my yards at Ngahinapouri and with an awesome support team we sorted and drenched them all and they then went on trucks to their new homes.

One poor chestnut mare went down on the truck several times and got stood on by the other horses. Oliver's transport did a fantastic job of looking after her and getting her safely to my place where she has stayed since. She was very battered and bruised but I'm pleased to report a week later she is doing very well and amazingly still looks in foal.

Another wee chestnut colt didn't look too healthy in the yards so he has stayed as well. I think his main problem was the amount of worms he was carrying, you've never seen anything like it!!

This is the first year there has been surplus young fillies, there were hardly any young colt babies and there also weren't enough 2-4yr mares to go around. People have been fantastic though as we had to subsitute alot of the orders for something else.

This years horses were the smaller Kaimanawa and were from an area that the army passes through alot so they seem alot quieter and unfazed by everything happening around them.

So I have 6 left here, 2 infoal older mares, 1 chestnut colt foal and 3 filly foals.   The foals will all be handled and homes found for them.
Chestnut mare that went down on the truck, she is looking much better one week later, her belly has dropped lots.
Poor wee chestnut colt was riddled with worms, lots of TLC needed for him. He has picked up lots though and is such a cool dude, happy to be close to humans already.
Gorgeous big bay infoal mare, she is very pretty. We look forward to seeing her foal.
Big bay filly left over from muster
Wee bay filly left over from muster
Little black filly left over from muster
2 weeks post muster
Little chestnut colt is looking much brighter, he is the quietest one and is happy to follow me around and eat hay from my hand.
The four wee foals are all doing great, they absolutely love their hay and are slowly getting used to hardfeed.
Love this pic on the left of the bay filly with her hair standing straight out :)
The chestnut mare that went down on the truck is doing lots better, she still has a nasty sore on her hip but all her other injuries have cleared up and she is happy, in fact today I was sitting down with them in the round pen and she came straight over to me and sniffed my face for ages, it was SO cute. I really like her and think she is going to be so pretty when she is all fattened up and lost her winter coat.
6wks post muster
The little black filly and the bigger bay filly have gone to their new home with Leigh Mohi in Taupo and are settling in well.   The chestnut mare I have named "Sahara" and she is doing so well, her hip is healing up nicely finally and she has put on some condition.   The little chestnut colt still needs a name, he is now super friendly and comes up for scratches, he is very laid back and has a gorgeous nature. He will be available for rehoming once gelded if anyone is interested. They have all had their second wormer and are tucking into hard feed now which is great!
AUGUST 07
Sahara is looking and feeling so good, her favourite thing is to gallop round the paddock bucking and she can jump!!
"Jolie" our lovely bay mare is too heavily pregnant to even think about running around and just stands and watches Sahara.
Our little chestnut boy is now in with my other 3 weanling colts and he just plays all day with them.   He is hard to take photos of now as when he sees you, he is straight up for scratches and cuddles, he is such a laid back sweetie.
Our little bay filly is now called "Poppy" and is living with Polly Jackson in Raglan.   Polly reports Poppy is settling in very well and enjoys her scratches.
Will it be twins?? Jolie about to burst!
Sahara foaled wee bay filly on November 7th at 7am, very cute!
